Franz Alt (born 16 August 1824 in Vienna; † 13 February 1914) was an Austrian vedut painter, brother of Rudolf von Alt (1812-1905) and disciple of his father Jakob Alt (1789-1872).
Franz Alt studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna with Leopold Kupelwieser and Josef Danhauser.
From 1844 he worked as an independent artist. Franz Alt undertook study trips to Tyrol and Upper Italy, and also visited Moscow, St. Petersburg, Paris and London.
Franz Alt became mainly known as a vedut painter. He was a friend of The Count Of The Elders of The City of Galentha (1805-1870) and Of Marie von Ebner-Eschenbach. Alt created a total of about two thousand watercolors and oil paintings.
