Born 1953 in Grades / Carinthia
At an early age he frequented the nearby Maria Saal at the “Tonhof” of the Lampersberg family, where Tomaschütz meets painters, composers, musicians and poets such as H.C. Artmann.
1969 Beginning of studies at the Carinthian State Conservatory – subject piano.
The chance to set a new course in painting emerges in 1974 when he passes the entrance examination to the Academy of Fine Arts and is accepted into the class of Prof. Hollegha.
The artist living in St. Veit has long been one of the most interesting personalities of the Carinthian art scene. In his pictures, the world view of the absurd finds its place next to an abysmal humor.
These are strange observations or observations of the alien that Thomaschütz does. He leads us into a world of the surreal, in which we can recognize our so-called reality again. The painter tells stories that get under your skin. We approach the depths of our subconsciousness and are reconciled with them through humor.
A thin man is often the focus of considerations. Thomaschütz means himself, and yet every observer can find himself in this figure, its lostness in space, its isolation from other people. A tall beautiful woman is looking at small men in exhibition showcases. The discontinued model of macho as a museum object? Petrified hierarchies that reveal themselves in ecclesiastical dignitaries, or the portraits of the Nordberg family, invites Gerald Thomaschütz to follow his stories and observations and come up with his own stories.
