Born in 1887 in Nötsch im Gailtal, he attended the middle school in Trieste, then the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna.

In 1909, on the initiative of Schiele, he founded the „Neukunstgruppe“ with Böhler, Peschka, Faistauer and others in protest against the then prevailing academicism. First exhibitions in Vienna in 1909 and 1911. On the recommendation of Gustav Klimt and Carl Moll, Wiegele and Kolig received a scholarship in 1912 for a stay in Paris.

Interned in North Africa during world war I, he comes to Switzerland as an exchange prisoner, where he lives until 1925. Intensive contacts with well-known artists and collectors. 1925 Return to Nötsch, participation in several joint exhibitions in Vienna, Klagenfurt and Salzburg.

Several art trips to Italy, in 1932 accompanied by Otto Demus to Venice, Padua and Florence. Wiegele died under the rubble of his house in a 1944 bombing raid on Nötsch.

Together with Kolig, it is the centre of the „Nötscher Kreis“ and, like that, is one of the most important representatives of classical modernism in Austria.
